October Teacher Feature
The Darlington County School District's Teacher Forum announced recently the Teacher Feature winners for October.  Congratulations to Mrs. Gina Benjamin!  Mrs. Benjamin teaches Digital Multimedia, Image Editing and Fundamentals of Computer Science.  She is a co-adviser for Future Business Leaders of America and assists with BETA Club.   

The program recognizes one teacher from each school to honor excellence in education. The purpose of the Teacher Forum is to foster professional growth and teacher leadership.The Teacher Feature Program is sponsored by Better Homes and Gardens Segars Realty.  Honorees receive free meals at local restaurants and recognition in their schools.

We held our annual Open House for Prospective Students on Wednesday, October 2 from 5:30-7:30 PM.  Students and their parents were given tours around the school and an opportunity to see in many of the classrooms and talk with many of our teachers.  It's a great opportunity for those that are interested in attending Mayo before submitting their Magnet applications.  We look forward to seeing your new faces in our Mayo family next year!

The Crucible
On Thursday, October 3 our English classes had the opportunity to see the play The Crucible, by Arthur Miller at Coker University.  

Pink Out Day!

On Wednesday, October 9 our Mayo family recognized National Pink Out Day by wearing pink in support of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Student Council Blood Drive

On Thursday, October 10 our Mayo Student Council sponsored the first American Red Cross Blood Drive for the year. It was a great success with 39 pints of blood collected!  Thank you to the students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members who helped us not only meet, but exceed our goal.  With each unit of blood helping save up to three people, we made an impact on more than 115 lives!!!

State Fair Incentive Trip

On Friday, October 11 many of our students were awarded a trip to the State Fair!

Ed-Op at FMU!

On Monday, October 14 Mayo Juniors and Seniors traveled to Frances Marion University to attend the annual ED-Op Day.  As usual, our students were Dressed to Impress!

Induction Ceremonies: NEHS, Mu Alpha Theta & FBLA

On Tuesday, October 15 at 6:30 PM in the Conference Center Induction Ceremonies were held for officers and new members of the National English Honor Society under the leadership of Mrs. Jennifer Blankenship, Mu Alpha Theta under the leadership of Mrs. Vonda Baker and Mrs. Sharon Cox, and the Future Business Leaders of America under the leadership of Mrs. Gina Benjamin and Ms. Charissa Lannan.  The State FBLA Chapter Reporter, Christopher Crawford, was in attendance and helped assist with the new officer inductions.

Fall Concert
On Thursday, October 17 at 6:30 PM our music department, lead by Mr. Cole Davis, held their Fall Concert in the Conference Center.  Music was performed by our Chamber Symphony and Concert Choir.

Fall Spirit Week

During the week of October 28-November 1 we celebrated our Fall Spirit Week.  Every day had a theme.  Monday was 'Meme Day'.  Tuesday was Decades Day - Seniors were dressed as senior citizens, Juniors represented the 50's, Sophomores represented the 60's, and the Freshmen represented the 70's.  Wednesday was Country/City Day.  Thursday was Costume Day, the faculty dressed as Care Bears. Friday was Phoenix Pride Day.

On Friday, the Student Council also sponsored the Fall Festival.  This was celebrated in the courtyard with games, goodies, and music!  Fun was had by all!
