Teacher Feature

The Mayo honoree for the month of March is Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson, English teacher and National Honor Society Adviser. Thanks for all you do for our school and students everyday!

All State Chorus
The weekend of March 1-4 several of our Mayo Chorus students traveled to Rock Hill to participate in the All State Chorus activities culminating in a grand performance on Sunday.

Dr. Seuss Day

On Friday, March 2, Mrs. Carol Ross sponsored a Read-In Day & Pajama Day to celebrate Dr. Seuss' birthday!  The students enjoyed lounging on the floor and in the soft cushions Mrs. Ross has in the Learning Commons while listening to Mrs. Ross read Dr. Seuss stories.

Academic Challenge 
Ms. Kelly Long, Mrs. Nancy Fletcher and the Academic Challenge team completed the season at the Academic Challenge Tournament held on Saturday, March 3 at West Florence High School.  A special thanks to those faculty members who assisted with the home matches.

Career Cafè
On Tuesday, March 6 Mrs. Quanketa Davis hosted the monthly Career Cafè.  Her speaker was Mrs. Melissa Bates who represented Johnson & Wales University.

Annual Spring Blood Drive

On Friday, March 9 our Student Council sponsored the Annual Spring Blood Drive.  Thank you for supporting the blood drive.  They reached their goal of 24 units. The American Red Cross staff was genuinely complimentary of our students.

Teen Tech Week
During the week of March 5-9 Mrs. Carol Ross hosted the Teen Tech Week in the Learning Commons.  She played videos and tips and tricks for smart phones, displayed a digital calendar, and had VR goggles for students to try.

STAND Winner - Alexanderia Moore
Our 2018 STAND award winner is Alexanderia Moore.  She will represent us at the district STAND program in April.

Pi Day

On Wednesday, March 14 we celebrated National Pi Day here at Mayo.  During activity period Mrs. Baker and the Mu Alpha Theta Math Honor Society had some activities for the students to participate in - Pi eating contest, Pi in the face and a Pi tug of war.  Mrs. Baker's students designed personalized quilt squares for 'Pi' day and she had them combined into a quilt.  It's on display by her classroom door in building 1.

Jostens Ring Ceremony

On Thursday, March 15 we held a Ring Ceremony for the Class of 2019. This was our pre-graduation ceremony, where parents/guardians/significant individuals present class rings to their juniors.  This ceremony is a very special time in the lives of these young men and women.  We were honored to have our new DCSD superintendent, Dr. Tim Newman, to attend our program.

FBLA Winners at State!
On Friday & Saturday, March 16 & 17, several of our FBLA members attended and competed at the 70th SC FBLA State Leadership Conference in N. Charleston, SC.  Congratulations to Ms. Lannan and our FBLA Chapter.  They received the award for the Largest Chapter Membership in District III (59 members), Cooper Myers won 3rd place in Cyber Security and Christopher Colclough, Gary Altman, and Eric Douglas won 1st place in Digital Video Production.  Jamel Eley served as the voting delegate for our cha

Winners at Math Competition!

Congratulations to Mrs. Sharon Cox, Taylor Boggs, Nigel Hankins, True-Allah Liles, and Cooper Myers for a 2nd place finish at the Florence-Darlington Tech Math Competition on Friday, March 16.  Each student won $50 and a prize of $1000 for our math department.  Congratulations!!

Art - Grand Prize Winner!

Congratulations to Mrs. Lyn O'Donnell and Sarah Fender  for winning the Grand Prize in the Art in Business High School Division on Sunday, March 18 held at Hartsville Middle School.  Sarah won a cash prize and also received a check for our Art Department!  Congratulations!!

Palmetto's Finest Award!!

On Tuesday, March 20 Mayo High School for MST was announced as the Palmetto's Finest Award Winner in the Special Category.  Everyone worked hard this year for this award.  Special thanks to Mrs. Elizabeth Thompson for being the primary writer of our story.  The announcement was made live and we were all waiting anxiously in the Conference Center.  What a GREAT day for the Mayo family!!

Will You Invest?

On Friday, March 9, Mrs. Benjamin's Google Basics classes presented marketing projects for products they conceptualized.  The products were pitched to faculty & staff in the Learning Commons and were each given three $10,000 checks that they could use to invest in three products.  There were some interesting products, but the winner was for the "Dynamic Duo", a washing machine that automatically converts into a clothes dryer by Jordan Blue, Shirvy Davis and Ty'Darius Byrd with a total investment of $190,000!!  Kudos to Mrs. Benjamin!!

Music Family Night
Kudos to Mr. Cole Davis for hosting the Music Family Night last night.  The music students held a dress rehearsal for the upcoming competitions and supper for their families and guests.  It was a wonderful performance.  Mr. Davis had a full house and the students were GREAT!!!

Excellent for the Chamber Symphony Band
On Tuesday, March 20 the Chamber Symphony Band traveled to Charleston to attend the Concert Band Festival.  Congratulations on bringing home an EXCELLENT rating!!  Kudos to Mr. Cole Davis!

Congratulations to Ms. Jill Knight!
She had a grant fully funded by for materials for her APUSH students.  Her project is entitled "A PUSH for Success".  Congratulations!

Sarah Wins Again!
Congratulations to Sarah Fender for placing 3rd place in the Youth Art Month Show held in Florence on Saturday, March 24.

State Choral Festival
On Monday, March 26 our chorus traveled to Columbia, SC to perform in the State Choral Festival.  Congratulations on receiving an overall EXCELLENT rating!!!  Kudos to Mr. Cole Davis!

Sixth Annual Taste of Mayo a Success

NEHS Poetry Slam!

On Wednesday, March 28 the NEHS hosted a Poetry Slam during activity period in the Learning Commons.  Participating poets read their own works or favorite poems by other authors.  Kudos to Mrs. Jennifer Blankenship!
