On Wednesday, April 5, Mayo Seniors participated in a Reality Fair hosted by SPC Credit Union.  Seniors were given a salary and other financial requirements, in which they had to visit various vendors to budget their funds.  A special thanks to Ms. Knight and Mr. Flower's Economics classes for assisting with the event.  A BIG thank you to SPC Credit Union for sponsoring such a wonderful opportunity to help students learn the importance of Personal Financing.

Mayo Students Field Trip to Boeing Plant
On Thursday, April 6, Mr. Bert Cook took some Mayo students interested in engineering on a field trip to the Boeing airplane plant in Charleston.  Kudos to those who attended.  The feedback was that Boeing was AWESOME and two of our students were on the winning team, Deliano Jeffries and Jordan Green.  We hope to have a presentation on their visit and experience in the near future.  We are very excited about our partnership with Boeing next year.

2017 STAND Award Winner
On Friday, April 7 during the 2017 STAND Awards ceremony at Hartsville Middle School, students from across the Darlington County School District earned recognition.  STAND is an acronym for "Students Taking Action, Not Drugs".  The awards are presented to a student from each school for displaying positive character, encouraging others to live drug-free lifestyles, and seeking to improve in academics and behavior. The ceremony is the annual culmination of the district's Drug-Free Schools and Character Education program.
Congratulations to MyKenna Blankenship - our 2017 STAND Award winner!

Look at our Flowers!
On Friday, May 28 the Environmental Club sponsored Earth Day/School-Community Clean-up here at Mayo.  Everyone was involved with the areas assigned.  Some helped with picking up trash around the surrounding neighborhood and others worked at beautifying our flower pots and flower beds. It appears that the students enjoyed the whole experience.

The litter crews collected a dump truck full!!  22 bags of trash, 8 tires, 2 large seat cushions, a yard sign, 2 pipes, and 1 black to an air-conditioning unit.  Wow!

We appreciate everyone's help.  Special thanks to Mrs. Ruth Taylor, Miss Kelly Long, and Mrs. Nancy Fletcher for coordinating this event with the Environmental Club, it was very well organized.  Stop and take a look one day!
